  Vaccines are an integral part of maintaining a strong immune system for your animal companion. Certain deadly pathogens, such as Canine parvovirus, distemper virus and feline leukemia virus are in the environment, causing heartbreaking disease and sometimes patient loss. The current vaccines for such diseases are very effective. Dr April follows the guidelines put forth by the American Veterinary Medical Association, American Animal Hospital Association and the American Association of Feline Practitioners. That said, there are exceptions in which vaccines may be withheld due to specific medical condition, such as vaccine reaction. Immune antibody titers can be monitored annually to monitor the patient’s immunocompetence and minimize the frequency of vaccine administration.
